About Me
Hi! My name is Hanna. I grew up in a small town in the midwest and originally thought I would become a teacher. Once I found my passion for science and medicine, I instead became a scientific research and communicator. My goal is to make science, health, and medical information more accessible. I strive to be a resource for those who are interested in pursing careers in medical research. I have been posting on social media about my journey into science and life as a grad student since winter of 2021 and have decided to expand to this blog and other socials as well!
I obtained my B.S from Illinois State University in 2022 in Molecular and Cellular Biology with minors in chemistry and public health. While there, I also obtained my CRLA level I and II tutor certifications while working as a biology and anatomy tutor. This is when I began to notice the growing gap between scientists and the general public.
Currently, I am in my third year of the University of Iowa's Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Immunology. As I have grown in my capabilities as a scientist, I have found a passion for science writing to go with my passion for science communication. This blog is a place where I will combine the two, as well as share about what it is really like to be a scientist, and what the journey to become one entails. I also want to show that being in grad school does not have to be your whole life, and that the journey there does not have to mean putting your life on hold. In my free time, I enjoy yoga, plant care, crochet, and spending time with my corgi, Sherman!
